Maize plot has increased from half a bag before FFS training to 2 bags after
Fredrick Amara, aged 70, is a member of Emmanuel Chemelil FFS, Maseno East Diocese. He is married to Evelyn
Amara and Evelyn are blessed with 4 grown-up children. He owns 1.5 acres of land and plants maize, bananas and vegetables such as onions, eggplant and local vegetables. He also keeps sheep and chickens. Yield from his quarter-acre of maize plot has increased from half a bag before FFS training to 2 bags after, which he attributes to correct spacing, erosion control and use of compost manure. He used to suffer crop losses due to waterlogging, but he has now dug cut-off drains to protect his farm.
Fredrick has a successful chicken enterprise after learning about proper feeding and disease control, especially Newcastle Disease, which causes a high mortality rate in chickens. Kingdom Life training has enabled him to share his farm produce with vulnerable members of his community. He also faithfully tithes in church.
