Norman Omuse

Martin’s Maize yield from 0.5 acres has increased from 8 bags to 20 bags

Norman Omuse owns one acre of land and is married with 4 children. On his farm, he grows maize, vegetables, sweet potato, avocado and bananas. Since joining the farm school in 2024, he has planted 40 trees on his farm. His maize yield from 0.5 acres has increased from 8 bags to 20 bags, and he attributes this to the use of well-decomposed farm yard manure and soil erosion control using cut-off drains and Napier grass strips, skills he learnt at the farm school. So far, he has transferred knowledge to 8 neighbours.

Norman says that Kingdom Life has helped him know the word of God better and is able to preach well during Sunday Services. He is now slow to anger and has learnt to live well with people, fostering cohesiveness. He also mentors the youth and teaches them the word of God. Through FFS training, he has been sharing his farm produce with the needy.

The main challenges to his farm are crop pests, which he is addressing by paying regular visits to his farm and applying control measures learnt at the school. His advice to young people out of school is that farming pays, and they should engage in the available income-generating farming opportunities instead of going to the tarmac in towns.
